Then head east to the village of Holcot where you cross the water on the causeway. Other paths will then take you along the northern edge of the water to the car park. The area is designated as a nature reserve so you can look out for a variety of wildlife on the way. If you fancy a pit stop on the route then head into Holcot and visit the White Swan. It's a friendly pub with a good menu and a nice outdoor seating area to relax in. Predator fishing is available in the winter months, mainly for pike. Trout are stocked at around 2lb in weight. The Pitsford brown trout record was set in October by season ticket holder Bob Collins with a fish of 15lb 8oz.

If you like watching the fishermen the dam is usually quite a busy area…. The path continues until it reaches a small road acting as another dam. The fishing here is great too. Plus, there are meeting facilities for those essential get togethers. Naturally, we also play host to Northampton Sailing Club which offers sailing and watersports experiences and instruction to people of all ages and abilities.

There are plenty of benches positioned strategically around Pitsford Water, each of them giving you a unique perspective on our wonderful surroundings and all the goings on. Over 25 species of duck have been recorded as well as three species of diver and five of grebe. The scrub areas attract winter flocks of thrushes to their berry crop and over 40 species of bird are known to breed here in spring and summer, varying in size from heron to the tiny goldcrest.

A feeding station ensures a good chance of seeing tree sparrow and many other small birds attracted to the seeds. The diversity of habitats provides food and shelter in spring for a huge range of migrant songbirds.
