But, sadly, she turns out to be very nice--and who would give this the award for the upcoming mad scientist science fair?!

And, on top of that, a truly evil mad scientist is bent on stealing this invention for himself. The film is a very unusual CGI movie artistically. The CG is unusual but also not particularly pretty--looking a generation behind some of the other CGI movies that debuted in It's a style that you'll either love or hate--and I hated it.

However, the CG was the least of the film's problems. The story simply is bad. As a children's movie, it's really unacceptable for younger audiences as it's pretty violent--with some nasty deaths and language issues. As a film for adults, the story seems pretty dumb. Case in point--the entire end of the film--which an incomprehensible mess involving the nice monster becoming mean and destroying everything while dressed like Annie and singing "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow"!! So would I recommend this film?

But I guess for ages it's not too bad--anyone younger shouldn't see it and anyone older would be shocked by the incomprehensible lameness. Was this review helpful?

Sign in to vote. TheLittleSongbird 7 March There will be some who love Igor, and some who don't. I liked it, I have seen better animated films, but I have seen worse as well.

The plot, despite a very intriguing concept, is rather formulaic and the film drags at times, but a lot compensates for any misgivings. There may be some who'd think Igor is too dark, I can understand, but I happened to like the dark tone the film sometimes had, it reminded me a little bit of the Gothic charm you'd find in a Tim Burton film.

The animation is absolutely great, very bold and colourful while keeping to Igor's overall atmosphere, and the characters are quirky with an endearing protagonist and Scamper is very funny and devious.

I also liked the ghoulish jokes and gags, and the film is smartly written generally. Overall, a good film, not a great one but I don't consider it bad either. SnoopyStyle 14 October The land of Malaria was once a sunny happy place, but then the sunny days ended. The economy collapsed and the king decided on a new economy of evil inventions.

Igor John Cusack wants to be more than the stereotypical assistant to his worthless master Dr. Glickenstein John Cleese.

He wants to create his own evil inventions. The animation is bright despite the fact that the sun never shines. It's very cartoonish while trying to create some smarter material. The problem I had is that I didn't love the characters.

I get the sarcastic spin on the traditional fantasy. It doesn't make them lovable. John Cusack just doesn't have the voice. It doesn't match the cartoon. While I understand that they intentionally created an opposite Igor, it's just hard to see Cusack in that role. Work was split between the studio's Paris and Vietnam facilities, and despite a large array of celebrity voices, the film ended up becoming rather obscure.

While not a smashing success, the film did earn a small profit. Rotten Tomatoes writes, "With an animation style that apes Tim Burton, and a slew of cultural references that aren't clear enough to reach the crowds, Igor's patched together antics make it hard to see who the film is trying to please.

The animation is clearly Burton-inspired the king looks an awful lot like Halloween's mayor , and much of it was hit and miss. Fun, yes, but never a home run. Trying to pinpoint where it went wrong is difficult, though Everyone knows the hunchbacked laboratory assistant from Frankenstein and Dracula movies, well, they decided to make a cartoon movie based on this. Basically in the Kingdom of Malaria, a world filled with mad scientists and evil inventions, anyone born with a disfigurement automatically becomes an "Igor", becoming a slave to a master and typecast to be foolish, slurring and stupid, and not by choice.

One Igor John Cusack , who serves tedious-minded Dr. An invention malfunctions and obliterates Dr. Glickenstein, Igor sees his chance to prove himself at the annual Evil Science Fair, where scientists showcase their latest weapons, Igor with the help of Scamper and Brain assembles a huge, monstrous being from human remains. The being Molly Shannon is brought to life, however Igor discovers that her "Evil Bone" he gave her as not activated, meaning that she is kind, friendly and feminine, he tries to convince the being that she is evil, inadvertently naming her "Eva".

Igor tries to brainwash Eva into becoming evil, she instead turns herself into an aspiring actress, Igor decides to exhibit her at the science fair anyway, telling her that she will be auditioning for "Annie". Igor's nemesis Dr. Schadenfreude Eddie Izzard finds out about Eva and tries to steal her, he fails, so he instead exposes Igor to King Malbert Jay Leno , he gets sent to an "Igor Recycling Plant", while Schadenfreude activates Eva's Evil Bone, but at the science fair she becomes uncontrollably destructive.

Scamper and Brain help Igor escape, they find out Malbert has conspired to keep himself in power, using a weather ray, at the fair Igor reasons with Eva and deactivates her Evil Bone, she regains her sweet personality, while Scamper and Brain deactivate the weather ray, and in doing so kill Malbert.

Schadenfreude tries to take power, but citizens revolt learning of Malbert's deception, the monarchy dissolves and Malaria becomes a normal republic, Igor is elected president, Schadenfreude is forced to become a pickle salesman, and the annual Science Fair has become an annual musical theatre showcase.

Holzwurm and James Lipton. The voice cast is all fine, especially Buscemi who steals the show as a roadkill rabbit who wants to kill himself, and the animation is well done, I have to admit I wish Frankenstein or Dracula had appeared somewhere, and the story is a bit predictable, but it has alright dark sense of humour and will appeal to horror fans and can be watched all the family, a reasonable animated comedy.

Worth watching, at least once! I don't know why this movie doesn't get more positive recognition; I thought it was terrific, and I've seen most the feature-length animated films of the past several years. This holds it own against most of them.

For an animated film, it has exactly what you want: fantastic colors and colorful characters -most of them very funny and entertaining to view and hear - and a good story with some interesting twists to it.

The artwork in this film is just amazing, especially on Blu-Ray. I've discovered that's how to watch these new animated movies - in high-def, because most of them look awesome. This film certainly is no exception. There were many times I just wanted the freeze-frame the picture and take in all the wild artwork. I might do that on a second viewing.

Also no surprise is Steve Buscemi, who always gets humorous roles in these animated films and makes everyone laugh. He usually plays a rat, too. I mentioned that to a friend and he said, "That's because he looks like one in real life. I'll give a special nod to the voice that cracked me up more than all the others, the one of "Hedi," done by Jennifer Coolidge.

She was hilarious! If you enjoy the famous Frankstein monster story, or wild characters in a monster-lab-type setting, you should enjoy this parody.
